Lavender Flower Water
What it is
The aqueous by-product of steam-distilling lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) flowers to obtain lavender essential oil, containing a small residual fraction of the plant's volatile aromatic compounds. It is used as a mild fragrant base or skin-conditioning water in toners and mists.
How it works
Trace amounts of linalool, linalyl acetate, and other lavender volatiles dissolved in the distillate impart a light scent and a subjective soothing sensory effect, though at concentrations far lower than in the essential oil itself.
