What it is
A saturated C14 fatty acid found in coconut and palm kernel oils, used to build lather in soaps and to thicken and opacify creams.
How it works
It acts as a surfactant building block (when saponified) and as an emulsion structurant, but its mid-chain length lets it penetrate follicles and promote clogged pores.
