What it is

Sodium Sulfite is an inorganic salt used in small amounts in cosmetic formulas to prevent discoloration and rancidity by scavenging oxygen. It is not a fragrance or active skincare ingredient but a behind-the-scenes stabilizer.

How it works

Acting as a reducing agent and oxygen scavenger, it readily donates electrons to oxidize itself preferentially, slowing the oxidative degradation of the formula's other ingredients.
