What it is
Sucrose is common table sugar, used in cosmetics both as a humectant and skin-conditioning agent in solution and, in coarser crystal form, as a mechanical exfoliant in scrubs.
How it works
As a small hygroscopic molecule it attracts and holds water at the skin surface; as intact crystals it physically abrades and lifts away dead surface skin cells during massage.
