Ingredient
Tocopheryl Acetate
Vitamin E Acetate
Vitamin E
What it is
The acetate ester of tocopherol (vitamin E), used widely in cosmetics as a stable, oil-soluble antioxidant and skin-conditioning agent. It is more shelf-stable than free tocopherol because the acetate group resists oxidation until it is cleaved on the skin.
How it works
Once applied, skin esterases can slowly hydrolyse the acetate ester to release free tocopherol, which neutralises free radicals and helps support the skin's barrier lipid film.
