What it is

A fine black pigment used in cosmetics, primarily in eye makeup, to impart deep black color.

Its microscopic carbon particles absorb and scatter light rather than reflecting it, producing an opaque, intense black shade in the formula.

Cosmetic-grade carbon black (CI 77266) meeting regulatory purity limits for PAH contaminants is non-irritating and non-sensitizing on skin; the SCCS reviewed carbon black (incl. nano) and FDA permits it in externally-applied cosmetics under strict PAH specs. Note: this green reflects skin tolerability only — inhalation/PAH-purity and nano-in-spray concerns are handled by those purity limits, not by this rating.
